AUSTRALIA. Tasmanian whisky house Lark Distilling Co. and Heinemann Oceania have launched a striking activation showcasing three travel retail-exclusive (TREX) whiskies at Sydney Airport.

The animation invites travellers to discover the brand’s newly released 700ml Single Malt Collection throughout May and June.

The TREX range features Cinder Forest No.168, Wild Haven No.172 and Ember Eclipse No.294. The trio will feature in a forthcoming episode of The TREX Factor* shot in Hong Kong last week.

They are joined by established whiskies Devil’s Storm No.183 and Ruby Abyss No.285, which recently secured World’s Best Design and Best Range Design honours at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards in London.

The animation has already delivered strong early momentum, the partners said. Lark has become the number one single malt brand and the number three overall alcohol brand in the category, up from number 17 during the same period last year.

Lark Master Distiller Chris Thomson appeared in-store at Heinemann Tax & Duty Free, Sydney Airport, engaging directly with shoppers, sharing the stories behind the whiskies and signing bottles for travellers.

Heinemann Asia Pacific Regional Purchasing Director Ranjith Menon commented, “We are delighted to present Lark’s new expressions to our passengers, representing Australia’s one-of-a-kind landscape and pride in craft.

“This activation’s invitation to interact with the new whiskies and to engage with Lark’s story exemplifies our commitment to customer experience and a culturally rich traveller journey. The response to the campaign so far has been very strong, speaking to Lark’s compelling proposition and the activation’s highly effective concept and execution.”

Lark CEO Stuart Gregor added, “We are incredibly excited to bring the new Lark whisky portfolio to the travel retail channel, including three travel-retail exclusive products.

“The opportunity to partner with Heinemann and activate in Australia’s premier travel activation space has strengthened our position as one of the leading single malt brands in the country”

Unmistakably Tasmanian whisky

The 700ml Single Malt Collection draws heavily on Tasmanian provenance and craftsmanship. Each expression combines a rich, fortified character and sweetness with what the company describes as a New World interpretation of umami.

The whiskies have been matured and finished in a range of casks, including rum and Cognac, alongside rare, fortified wine casks sourced from Seppeltsfield Wines in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. Some of the casks reportedly carry more than a century of liquid history.

The whiskies were developed using a multi-cask maturation method and bespoke seasoning programme incorporating Tawny, PX, Apera and Muscadelle casks.

Fermentation tanks are exposed to naturally occurring wild micro-organisms in the Tasmanian air, local apple wood is used to smoke the water and peat is sourced from the company’s own peat mine in Tasmania’s Central Highlands

Each expression takes its name from sensory references to Tasmania, while the numbering system reflects the recipe composition behind each whisky.

TREX trio triumph

Cinder Forest No.168 combines first-fill Port and sherry casks with an American oak finish. It offers notes of poached nectarine, toasted almonds and acacia honey alongside berries, vanilla custard and espresso-laced nougat on the palate.

Wild Haven No.172 is finished in rum casks after maturation in vintage first-fill Port and sherry casks from Seppeltsfield. The whisky delivers demerara sugar, strawberry compote, caramelised banana and cocoa nibs flavours with a spiced fruit cake and candied pecan finish.

Finished in Cognac casks following 100% first-fill vintage Port and sherry ageing, Ember Eclipse No.294 features tasting notes of pear tart, praline chocolate, quince paste, Madeira pudding and maple butter.

Resident ‘TREX Master’ Martin Moodie profiles and tastes the brilliantly packaged (and superb tasting) Lark trio of travel retail-exclusive (TREX) variants during a shooting this week of The TREX Factor. The episode was filmed at El Gordo Tacos & Grill, a top-quality Mexican restaurant owned by Global Drinks Ltd and Misaka Japanese whisky Founder Harry Kartasis.
