Xi’an Airport introduces fresh concepts in major F&B overhaul

CHINA. Xi’an Xianyang International Airport has undergone a food & beverage transformation, with three concepts making their Chinese airport debuts in the new Terminal 2 Arrivals food court, The Foodie Report can exclusively reveal.

The airport, a joint venture between Germany’s Fraport, China West Airport Group and China National Aviation Corporation, has opened the new international food court in cooperation with the Industry Company of China West Airport Group (CWAG). It covers 630sq m of floor space.

Rolled out in time for the busy Chinese New Year period, it replaces the old restaurant in Terminal 2 Arrivals. The redesigned area is called Tastyle and features three concepts.

Xi’an Xianyang International Airport Chief Operations Officer Wolfgang Weil spoke at the FAB 2012 conference

Iceason is an Italian premium hand-made ice cream brand offering fresh and natural, low-fat, low-calorie ice cream. It entered the Chinese market in 2007 and now has stores in a number of shopping malls and business centres in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other provincial capitals. It operates 2,500 outlets around the world.

Minim’s, a sub-brand of Maxim’s, offers guests classical western cuisine with a “French touch”. Menu items include hamburgers, sandwiches and snacks, all made from high quality ingredients. The outlet in Xi’an Xianyang International is its first in mainland China and the first store at any airport worldwide. It is the result of a partnership between the Industry Company of CWAG and Huaxia Kirin (Hong Kong) International Investment Holding Group, which hold shares in Minim’s France.

Completing the new line-up is a branch of Korean restaurant chain Quan Wei, offering stone pot rice and other traditional Korean delicacies. It is designed to meet the increasing demand for Korean food in China and targets passengers on daily flights to South Korea operated by Korean Air and Asiana. The Industry Company of CWAG has partnered with Powealth International Enterprise Management Corporation to open the outlet.

Xi’an Xianyang International Airport Chief Operations Officer Wolfgang Weil said: “We are proud to launch these new F&B concepts together with our partner, the Industry Company of CWAG. Finally, T2 is taking F&B up to a level of top-quality international authentic cuisine.

“There was definitely a significant shortage in international branded cuisines in our Terminal 2. But now we are able to offer to our passengers the international food experience they were asking for.

“We at Xi’an Airport have defined ambitious targets, eager to set our commercial areas to even higher standards. These innovative, international F&B outlets are definitely milestones for the qualitative development of our airport facilities.”

The creation of the new Tastyle zone was a product of intensive customer surveys and research, meeting the customers’ demands of the present and future.

The Industry Company of CWAG Deputy General Manager Mr Du said: “What our customers can enjoy in our new Tastyle gourmet zone is the result of detailed concept design with our three new partners as well as with the airport. We are very glad that this successful project is part of the ongoing endeavour to lift Terminal 2’s customer experience.”
