CHINA. Zhuhai Duty Free Group has recently secured the contract for the arrivals duty-free concession at Ganqimaodu Port in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The win marks the company’s second arrivals concession at a border port in Inner Mongolia, following its earlier success at Manzhouli Highway Port, and helps further extend the retailer’s land port network across northern China.
The contract complements the Zhuhai Duty Free Group’s existing departures duty-free operation at Ordos Ejin Horo International Airport, a key Inner Mongolia gateway, which it has managed since August 2024.
Ganqimaodu Port in Bayan Nur City, Inner Mongolia, borders Mongolia’s South Gobi Province. It serves as a pivotal land crossing for China-Mongolia economic and trade exchange, and is a key node along the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor.
In recent years, deepening bilateral trade ties have driven the port’s ongoing infrastructure and service upgrades, steadily enhancing its capacity for freight movement, passenger transit and integrated support services.
Located inside the Ganqimaodu Port joint inspection building, the arrivals duty-free store spans 62sq m. Once operational, it will enhance the port’s commercial appeal and offer cross-border travellers a more convenient and diverse range of duty-free shopping options, Zhuhai Duty Free Group said.
Ganqimaodu Port has put into operation a smart customs freight passage corridor and a ‘six-entry, six-exit’ traveller control point system, designed to boost clearance efficiency and service support capacity.
The main construction of the new port gate and supporting facilities has also been completed, paving the way for one-stop integrated processing of inspection and quarantine, customs clearance, tourism services and other functions.
This is expected to significantly reduce turnaround times and improve cross-border efficiency for both travellers and vehicles. Zhuhai Duty Free Group noted the arrivals store is strategically positioned to align with the rising passenger flows and evolving consumer demand spurred by the port’s upgraded infrastructure.
The company added its concession gains at both Manzhouli Highway Port and Ganqimaodu Port are a milestone signalling the extension of its retail footprint in Inner Mongolia’s land-border ports.
With these two projects located respectively on the China-Russia and China-Mongolia borders, Zhuhai Duty Free Group plans to tailor each store’s product assortments and service configurations to the distinct traveller profiles and spending patterns at each port, delivering a premium and convenient duty-free shopping experience for cross-border visitors.
So far this year, Zhuhai Duty Free Group has successively secured a string of duty-free concessions at Jieyang Chaoshan, Guilin Liangjiang and Nanning Wuxu international airports, and Hengqin and Manzhouli Highway ports, achieving a sustained expansion of its port-duty-free business layout.
