EUROPE. Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Sprüngli has rolled out its limited-edition Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade – Matcha Strawberry in travel retail this December, now available at Zurich, Geneva and Frankfurt airports.
The latest creation builds on the success of the brand’s Dubai Style Chocolate and taps into the global popularity of matcha, drawing inspiration from Japanese tea ceremony traditions and rising interest for mindful indulgence.

The launch was promoted through a series of activations across the three European hubs, with availability strictly limited to 300 handcrafted, individually numbered tablets on a first-come, first-served basis.
Debuting on 4 December at Zurich Airport with Avolta, the experience offered travellers a first look at the handcrafted design and ceremonial matcha inspiration.

The launch continued on 5 December at Geneva Airport with Lagardère Travel Retail, showcasing a premium Lindt setup to reflect the tea preparation ritual, before moving to Frankfurt Airport with Gebr. Heinemann for immersive displays and tastings of the new creation.
Developed by Lindt Master Chocolatiers, the expression reflects techniques inspired by Japan’s 800-year tea traditions.

The recipe features white Lindt chocolate combined with ceremonial-grade Chamei Minami matcha, strawberry pieces and Genmai rice roasted using traditional Japanese methods for a delicate nutty aroma.

The recipe honours Japanese tea ceremonies, where tea masters grant the ‘Chamei’ title to signify exceptional origin, character and ceremonial value.
The Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade combines Chamei Minami matcha with strawberry and Lindt chocolate, delivering a balanced, refined flavour profile.

Lindt & Sprüngli Head of Global Travel Retail Peter Zehnder said, “With Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade, we continued our mission to enchant the world with chocolate by listening closely to what travellers are seeking today.
“The global matcha movement has evolved from a social media trend into a genuine appetite for authentic, premium taste experiences. This creation honours that interest by offering a ceremonial-grade interpretation crafted with Lindt’s expertise.
“It celebrates the heritage of Japan’s tea ceremonies while being reimagined through the artistry of Lindt chocolate.”

Gebr. Heinemann Head of Buying Confectionery Christina Werner added, “With the new Lindt Tokyo Style Chocolade, we are sending a strong signal for innovation and picking up on current trends in travel retail.
“The combination of high-quality ingredients and artisanal perfection makes this limited product a real highlight for travellers. We are particularly proud to be working with an influencer to target a young audience and thus provide fresh impetus for the industry.” ✈
