SSP opens Shake Shack and Dunkin’ in New York JFK Terminal 5 as US$100m revamp gathers pace

USA. SSP America has opened new Shake Shack and Dunkin’ outlets in New York JFK International Airport Terminal 5 as the US$100m overhaul of JetBlue’s flagship terminal continues.

Both concessions are located in the Center Node and form part of the wider T5 refresh programme being delivered by JetBlue, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Fraport USA.

The programme is set to introduce more than 40 new concessions and passenger experiences, spanning restaurants and retail outlets as well as communal spaces and New York City-inspired art installations.

SSP America operates the new Shake Shack under a licensing agreement with the restaurant brand. The outlet offers its core menu of burgers, chicken, fries and shakes, while the new Dunkin’ provides coffee, espresso drinks, sandwiches, donuts and other baked goods.

The additions broaden the food & beverage offer in a terminal that serves as JetBlue’s main hub at JFK and come amid extensive investment in the passenger facilities supporting one of the USA’s most important international gateways.

SSP America Chief Executive George Mboya said Shake Shack’s New York origins made the brand a natural fit for T5, while Dunkin’s emphasis on speed and familiarity was particularly suited to an airport environment.

On Dunkin’, he added that its combination of “great coffee served fast, everyday value and friendly service” made the brand “a natural fit for JetBlue’s Terminal 5”.

JetBlue Senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand Stephanie Evans Greene said Shake Shack had been one of the most requested concessions for T5.

The Dunkin’ opening, meanwhile, represents a reworked presence for an established T5 brand. Fraport New York Vice President Jose Cuevas said the new location was an important element in the continuing transformation of the terminal’s concessions programme and had been designed to improve convenience, quality and choice. ‍
