CHINA/OMAN. In a pioneering agreement, China Duty Free International – sister company of China Duty Free Group – today (2 November) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate within the duty-free and travel retail sectors.

The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the People’s Republic of China.

The agreement aims to develop Oman Duty Free’s business by attracting leading global brands to the Sultanate of Oman and supporting the Middle East retailer’s ambitious international expansion.

This alliance will see the exchange of expertise in store operations and product management, as well as cooperation in supply chains and franchising within travel retail stores.

The growing investment interest from China Tourism Group Duty Free (the parent company of China Duty Free International) in the Sultanate of Oman will contribute to supporting and developing Oman’s tourism sector, the partners said.

The wide-ranging MoU, set to be realised across travel, hospitality and retail sectors, will highlight the Sultanate of Oman as an attractive destination, paving the way for Oman to draw a larger number of Chinese tourists, Oman Duty Free said. ✈
