ADP Ingénierie reveals spectacular design for new Beijing Airport

CHINA. ADP Ingénierie has unveiled its latest design for Terminal 1 at Beijing’s New Daxing Airport.

As reported, the wholly-owned Aéroports de Paris subsidiary last September won an international competition, organised by Beijing New Airport Construction Headquarters, to design the terminal.

The single-terminal design at New Daxing Airport is inspired by Chinese architectural traditions and symbols

Inspired by Chinese architectural traditions and symbols, the key feature of the airport operator’s design concept is the vertical stacking of the international and domestic levels with a single, centralised passenger-handling centre.

According to ADP Ingénierie, the compact design will make the airport economical to operate and easy to navigate, with boarding gates no further than 650 yards from the central shopping and services space.

The new airport will have seven runways with 7.5 million square feet of surface area and a three mile-long façade. Scheduled to open in 2018, it will have an annual capacity of 45 million passengers with the potential to expand to 72 million.
