Adventurous Timex taps into advanced technology

Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen Technology

US. Timex, the US-based leader in outdoor and sports performance timepieces, has unveiled two additions to its collections aimed at adventurers worldwide.

Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap watch

The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap watch with TapScreen Technology is described as a revolutionary collection of precision sports timing instruments that are designed to respond to an athlete’s touch.

The three signature elements – TapScreen Technology, Target time pacer and Labeled interval timers – are designed to enhance performance by allowing athletes to focus less on managing their sports watch during workouts. The watches also feature dual time zone abilities for travellers.

TapScreen Technology allows users to easily activate the lap feature by tapping anywhere on the face, rather than having to locate and push buttons mid-stride.

The Target time pacer delivers audible alerts, indicating if the runner is on pace, slow or fast, in addition to displaying the time ahead or behind pace. This allows athletes to adjust their speed accordingly and adhere to race day strategy.

The 16 interval timers are labelled with intuitive names such as warm, slow, fast and cool, which is said to make complex interval workouts automatic and effortless. The watch stores up to three separate interval workout programmes at once, allowing athletes to use customised routines throughout their training.

Said Timex Vice President of Marketing Heberto Calves: “The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen Technology redefines how athletes interact with their timepieces in training and competition. The collection’s innovative features allow athletes to stay focused on performance while still taking laps and receiving feedback on pace.”

The watch face features a large-digit display and curved lens for easy viewing and tapping, and the durable, muscle-lined strap is designed to minimise skin contact and optimise ventilation during strenuous activity.

The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen Technology is the latest addition to Timex’s powerful 150-lap series.

The collection will be available in a variety of men’s and women’s styles, marking the first time a 150-lap collection with such advanced sports timing benefits and large, easy-to-read digits will be available in styles designed specifically with women in mind.

The collection is available in seven styles, and boasts the following features and benefits:

• TapScreen Technology, offering effortless access to advanced lap features;
• Target Time Pacer, delivering distinct audible alerts and advising of pace;
• 16 labelled Interval timers, making complex interval workouts easy and efficient;
• Lap management system, providing in-depth access to 150 laps of dated workouts;
• Hydration and nutrition alarms, reminding the user to refuel at regular intervals;
• 100-hour chronograph;
• 24-hour countdown timer;
• Three customisable alarms with five-minute back-up alarm;
• Dual time zone abilities for travel convenience;
• Water-resistant to 100 metres;
• Indiglo night-light with Night-Mode feature.

The collection was perfected with the help of extensive real-world testing by the Timex Multisport Team, a group of more than 40 elite athletes who compete in major multi-sport events worldwide, including Ironman and Xterra races and the ING New York City Marathon.

The collection is available at sports stores worldwide and at TimexIronman.com from February 2010, retailing at US$89.95.

From base camp to boardroom: The Timex Expedition E-Altimeter offers precise altitude and time measurements

Timex Expedition E-Altimeter collection

Timex has unveiled the new Timex Expedition E-Altimeter collection, a premium assortment of sophisticated adventure timepieces designed for outdoor enthusiasts.

The innovative collection, which is said to offer precise altitude and time measurements within a handsome analogue display, is described as a sharp departure from the digital altimeter timepieces currently offered across the adventure watch market.

The Timex Expedition E-Altimeter is the latest addition to the company’s acclaimed E-Instruments anthology, said to be the world’s only collection of analogue adventure instruments.

Said Timex Vice President of Marketing Heberto Calves: “The Timex Expedition E-Instruments collection is designed for the outdoor adventurer with sophisticated taste and the desire for something different. The collection’s rare blend of cutting-edge technology with distinctive styling makes it ideal for any setting, from base camp to the boardroom.”

The altimeter function, with an operating range of -400 to 25,000 feet (-120 to 7,600 metres), displays accurate altitude data in both feet and metres, and can recall high and low altitudes within a specific time period.

The altitude is indicated by a dedicated fourth hand, which points to measurements adorning the rugged 50mm stainless steel case.

Like the entire Timex Expedition E-Instruments collection, the watch operates on proprietary technology developed at the Timex Development Center in Germany.

Multiple sensors – in this case, an advanced barometric pressure sensor – power advanced four-to-six hand movements which provide precise outdoor intelligence within the traditional analogue designs.

Although the technology behind the E-Instruments collection is complex, the timepieces are intuitively designed, and are easy to use and calibrate, the company said. Each collection is water-resistant to 100 metres and boasts an Indiglo night-light to enhance visibility.

The Timex Expedition E-Altimeter collection will be available to travel retail markets worldwide in May 2010.
