SPAIN. Aelia and sister company SGEL have captured a key fashion concession at Alicante Airport. The move is the partnership’s second contract in Spain: it won a fashion & accessories concession at Málaga Airport’s new T3 in February (which will open later in 2010).
Aelia Retail España (the joint venture between Aelia and SGEL, the operator of the Relay news and gifts chain in Spain) will operate a five-year concession at Alicante, covering a 178sq m unit in the airport’s new terminal, from 1 March 2011.
Aelia Retail España already operates retail outlets in Spain at the cruise terminals of Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia.

Aelia’s fashion portfolio includes over 20 dedicated mono-, duo- and multi-brand stores in France, offering brands such as Hermès, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Yves Saint Laurent, Longchamp, Salvatore Ferragamo, Céline, Montblanc, Furla, Burberry as well as a new monobrand Longchamp store in the UK at Heathrow Terminal 1.
Aelia, in collaboration with its sister company Lagardère Services Asia Pacific, operates a multibrand fashion store in Sydney airport and won a significant fashion contract at Singapore Changi Airport in March 2010.
Aelia Chairman and CEO Jean-Baptiste Morin said: “We are delighted to have won these two tenders and to be strengthening our portfolio of duty free and specialist retail stores in Spain.
“The contracts create an exciting opportunity for us to deliver fashion stores at both airports that are tailored to their differing international and strongly British passenger profiles.”
Further details, including the stores’ portfolio of fashion brands, will be announced in the next few months. Aelia and SGEL are part of the Lagardère Services group.
