FRANCE. Aéroports de Paris (AdP) recorded a year-on-year increase of +1.6% in passenger traffic for August, highlighted by a strong long-haul performance.
The company’s Paris airports handled a total of 8.4 million passengers: 6.0 million at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport (+1.9%) and 2.4 million at Paris Orly (+1%). AdP noted the increases in the context of an “exceptional” traffic increase in August 2007 (+8%).
The August 2008 performance was marked by an increase on international routes, AdP’s most profitable segment. Traffic on international routes other than the Schengen area and the UK and Ireland rose by +5.6% year-on-year, fuelled by an increase in traffic to North and South America (+10%).
The African market grew by +3.7% while a +2.7% increase was recorded on routes to and from Asia and the Middle East.
Domestic traffic eased -0.6%. European traffic decreased by -0.3%, matching the slight decrease in Schengen figures (-0.3%). UK and Ireland routes were down by -4.4%.
