Airports as Artports: Lagardère Travel Retail spotlights Peruvian art with Fito Espinosa concept

Airports have a key role to play in championing a city’s or country’s craft, culture, tastes and traditions. For visitors they offer the first and last impression of the locality, for that city’s citizens they provide a source of civic pride. An arts & culture programme connects passengers to a place in the same way an airport connects them to the world. Many airport companies embrace that role with pride and passion as we explore in our regular column.

PERU. Lagardère Travel Retail Peru and Lima Airport Partners have inaugurated a space dedicated to Peruvian artist Fito Espinosa at Jorge Chávez International Airport.

The concept, which opened on 11 August in the International Departures area, is believed to be the first dedicated artist space of its kind within a Latin American duty-free store.

The opening forms part of Lagardère Travel Retail’s drive to integrate local culture and creativity into the airport and provide a platform for Peruvian talent to reach an international audience.

As reported, Lagardère Travel Retail opened 7,300sq m of retail and dining space at the new terminal at Jorge Chávez International Airport in June 2025.

Lagardère Travel Retail is framing Peruvian creativity by bringing Fito Espinosa’s distinctive artistic universe to international travellers through a cross-category lifestyle boutique

The space immerses travellers in the creative universe of award-winning artist Fito Espinosa, whose work explores themes including sensitivity, spirituality, nature and connection with the inner world.

The collection spans fine art, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, porcelain and jewellery. Travellers can also discover limited-edition pieces created in collaboration with Peruvian brands and craftspeople.

With this opening, Lagardère Travel Retail is embracing its role as a promoter of Peruvian culture. According to the retailer, the concept underlines its ambition to extend the role of airport retail beyond traditional commerce by providing a platform for culture and local talent.

“We are very proud to work with one of Peru’s most recognised artists to bring contemporary Peruvian culture to Lima Jorge Chávez International Airport,” said Lagardère Travel Retail Peru CEO Miguel Ruiz.

“We believe this is the first concept of its type in Latin American duty free, illustrating our determination, alongside Lima Airport Partners, to create a truly unique retail offer. Fito Espinosa’s work encapsulates the Peruvian spirit and we are delighted to help bring his work to an international audience.”
