Aldeasa today opened its largest travel retail store, measuring 2,300sq m, at Málaga T3 |
SPAIN. Aldeasa today opened its largest ever travel retail store as Málaga International Airport’s new terminal (T3) opened for business.
Aldeasa’s new outlets cover 2,900sq m, with 2,300sq m devoted to The Shop, described as one of the largest commercial areas at a European airport, and the largest managed by the company.
The Shop houses a range of traditional duty free items, and includes a 900sq m beauty section, plus a Lacoste boutique of 330sq m, the brand’s largest airport boutique in the world.
In addition The Express Shop has also been opened for last minute shopping along with an Arrivals Shop in the arrivals area of the new terminal, one of the first shops of this kind in a Spanish airport, said the retailer.
Aldeasa will continue operating the three shops it currently has in the South and North piers, which occupy a total of 340sq m. The North pier store has been completely refurbished.
The design of the new shops follows the same approach as Bruce S. Fairbanks’ design for the new terminal. Aldeasa said: “The combination of black and white is present in both the furniture and the other elements, always respecting the light and warmth of the entire construction.”
New zones include Thinking Andalucía, a concept focused on local products inspired by the culture of Andalucía, in a space specially designed for this new terminal, which reflects traditional Mediterranean culture using contemporary design.

Aldeasa Director of National Operations Pedro Castro said the company has developed “unique shops putting the latest technology at the service of customers. These shops represent the knowledge acquired during more than 35 years of experience in the sector and will certainly constitute a benchmark in the duty free and travel retail sector worldwide.”
With the new shops in Málaga’s T3, Aldeasa said it was providing employment for over 200 people in the Andalusian community. The company has been present in Málaga Airport since 1977. Almost a dozen of the original employees of that first shop will be part of the team in these new facilities.
Aldeasa is also present in Andalucia at Almeria, Jerez de la Frontera and Seville airports, managing a total of 1,000sq m with 30 employees.
As reported last week, travel retailer Ãreas has opened ten stores at the new terminal, which cover a total of 1,300sq m.
The Moodie Report will be on location later this month to preview the commercial offer at the new facility.
