USA. American Airlines has ceased the sale of duty free merchandise on selected international flights due to what the carrier termed “a contractual disagreement between American Airlines and DFASS, the company that had handled our onboard duty free sales.”
The move took effect from last Friday, 20 March, the airline confirmed in a statement to The Moodie Report.
The company added: “Duty free sales will continue on select international US Airways flights until further notice, and there is duty free shopping available at many of the international airports we serve.”
Passenger seeking to access the duty free brochure on the American Airlines’ website find a one line message as follows: “Duty free shopping is no longer available on American flights.”
The airline declined to comment further about the future of the programme.

American Airlines halted duty free sales last Friday |
In August 2014, another DFASS airline partner, Delta, suspended its inflight duty free sales, after failing to reach agreement with the inflight concessionaire over a restructuring of the programme.
As reported earlier today, Hotel Shilla is to take a 44% stake in DFASS.
