NETHERLANDS. Passenger numbers rose by +7.8% in March year-on-year at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The overall rise in passenger traffic for the first quarter was up +4.6% over the same period last year.
The airport attributed the increase to a marked decline in March 2003 following the outbreak of the war in Iraq and SARS.
Transfer traffic was hardest hit last year at Schiphol, which is a major transfer hub airport. The growth this March was “˜clearly primarily achieved by transfer passengers, up almost +14%’, according to the airport.
3,269,960 people used the airport last month, compared to 3,032,699 last March. A total of 8,863,187 people passed through Schiphol during the first quarter of this year, compared with 8,477,366 in the same period last year.
