Areas and Kamps extend partnership with Wolfsburg Main Station bakery

GERMANY. Areas has expanded its food & beverage presence in the German travel channel with the opening of a Kamps bakery at Wolfsburg Main Station.

The new outlet – a concept from one of Germany’s best-known bakery chains – opened on 8 September in the ground-floor main hall at Willy-Brandt-Platz.

A German favourite: Founded in Düsseldorf in 1982, Kamps today operates around 340 locations across Germany through its franchise model, including this latest concept at Wolfsburg Main Station

It occupies approximately 80sq m and offers 36 seats across indoor and outdoor areas.

The bakery features 26 indoor seats, including 12 at high tables, alongside a newly created outdoor area with a further ten seats.

The location serves Kamps’ range of coffee, sweet and savoury baked goods, targeting passengers and commuters as well as local customers.

The development is housed within the station’s heritage-listed building, requiring Areas to work with historic preservation authorities to retain the existing structure of the main hall while introducing the new food & beverage concept.

Areas Germany Operations Director Klaus Bahr said, “The new opening at Willy-Brandt-Platz impressively demonstrates how a historic building and modern travel gastronomy can come together in one place.

“With the new Kamps location, we offer our guests the opportunity to wait for their next train in a relaxed atmosphere or quickly grab a snack for their journey ahead – catering to all needs at a vibrant railway station.”

The opening builds on the partnership between Areas and Kamps at several high-footfall travel and urban locations in Germany.

Areas already operates Kamps concepts at Potsdam Main Station, Leipzig Airport and Leipzig Main Station, as well as Checkpoint Charlie and the Alexa shopping centre in Berlin.

Kamps Sales Director Operations Dirk Locher said, “Areas has the right instinct for customer needs, especially in high-traffic locations.

“Through our cooperation, we have already been able to develop several attractive locations.

“We are delighted to continue this success story in Wolfsburg.” ‍
