ARI’s latest liquor concept store aims to change perceptions of rum

Caribbean Rum Collection offers more than 80 rums

A concept store focused on Caribbean rum has been unveiled at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.

ARI’s 700sq ft store, Caribbean Rum Collection, opened at the retailer’s Runway Duty Free outlet and focuses on the age and heritage aspects of the more than 80 rums on sale.

Among the offerings are premium listings of several small Island brands connected to the West Indian Rum & Spirit Producers Association (WIRSPA), with the aim of exposing customers to these rums.

A Mount Gay sampling bar will also feature, with specially trained staff on hand to guide customers through the various tastes, while an interactive glossary will be available on in-store iPads, providing tasting notes and cocktail recipes.

ARI Chief Operations Officer Gerry Crawford said: “Although malt whiskies and Cognacs have been long recognised for their excellent qualities, rum has been somewhat overlooked internationally, despite its rich heritage and well established quality and craftsmanship. I’m confident that Caribbean Rum Collection will help change this perception by educating customers and promoting more niche rum brands.”
