ASIA PACIFIC. Asia Pacific passenger traffic continued to show a strong and steady growth in February, with airports in the region recording growth of +7.7%, according to ACI figures. The Middle East showed a year-on-year increase of +10.9%.

Jakarta and Abu Dhabi airports posted the strongest passenger traffic growth, achieving year-on-year increases of +27.3% and +24.5% respectively.

Beijing continued to record the highest passenger throughput in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, with over 5.9 million passengers. The other four top airports were Tokyo Haneda, with 5.1 million passengers, and Bangkok, Jakarta and Dubai, all of which recorded over 4.2 million passengers in February.

Year to date, total passenger traffic grew by +8.4% in the Asia Pacific and +10.4% in the Middle East.

ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Director Patti Chau commented: “When looking at the year-on-year percentages for this month, we need to note that we are comparing a monthly record of 29 days versus 28 days as in February last year. Hence, the results, although still showed a positive trend, may not be as rosy as they looked.”
