USA. An automated kiosk offering travellers gifts, gadgets, electronics, and skincare items has been installed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
Utique Shop is described as an “interactive, touch-sensitive, automated luxury store” by its manufacturer, AVT. The company claims the machines, which have been installed at a number of airports, entertainment destinations and malls in the USA, can generate up to ten times more revenue per square foot than traditional retail, at lower operating costs.
AVT Founder and Chairman Shannon Illingworth said: “We wanted to bring high-end, luxury products to men and women in a fast, friendly and engaging manner.
“The Utique Shops are the latest innovation in the growing trend toward automating the retailing process by enabling customers to purchase through micro stores and providing the right selection of merchandise in a convenient location.
“Retailers are looking for solutions that allow them to grow efficiently, enhance their brand, and stay connected to consumers. And consumers are seeking quality, convenience and engaging, multi-channel shopping experiences.”
In recent years, a number of automated retail providers have entered the airport environment, including ZoomSystems, which partnered with Benefit Cosmetics on the Glam Up & Away!, and 3floz, which offers beauty, grooming and personal care brands.
