Baltona set to double space at new Lviv Airport venture in Ukraine

Baltona will double the size of its recently opened store at Lviv Airport’s new terminal

UKRAINE. Travel retailer Baltona, majority-owned by Flemingo International, is set to enhance its footprint at one of its newest locations, Lviv Airport in Ukraine. The company opened a 2,000sq ft temporary store at the airport’s new terminal during the summer, in advance of the European Football Championships. Now it plans to double that store’s size to 4,000sq ft.

Poland-based Baltona has been seeking expansion in eastern Europe

The shop offers a broad selection of merchandise, including liquor, tobacco, beauty, fashion & accessories, regional products, drinks and snacks.

The company has also opened a store under its duty paid fascia, called Starter, which it aims to roll out to further locations in the region. This includes food and drinks, news & gifts, confectionery, toiletries and travel accessories.

A spokesman for Flemingo told The Moodie Report that the location will handle around 1 million international passengers a year initially, but that the retail operation would benefit from strong spends.

In other Baltona news, the company also recently opened a 6,000sq ft store (one of its largest) at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport in Poland.

As reported, Baltona won the concession to operate duty free and travel retail at Gdańsk, following a tender launched last year. Under the terms of the agreement, Baltona operates stores in both terminals at the airport, which also underwent expansion as Poland prepared to co-host (with Ukraine) the European Championships in June.

The company’s concession began in April and runs for five years.
