NEW ZEALAND. Kiwi-owned burger chain Better Burger has opened a new restaurant at Auckland Airport. It started trading this week in partnership with Delaware North, the company behind a series of new eateries at New Zealand’s largest and busiest airport.
Better Burger has initially employed 20 staff to man the restaurant, which is located airside of Auckland’s International Terminal. It is offering a simple menu of four burgers (beef and vegetarian options), fries and shakes, using “fresh, locally-sourced” ingredients. There is also a breakfast burger and orange juice on the airport menu.

The company claims that its 100% plant-based, commercially compostable packaging is unmatched by any fast food chain in Australasia.
Better Burger General Manager Rod Ballenden said: “Our customers are conscious consumers. With us they count on a good feed that doesn’t come from a freezer and isn’t filled with preservatives. They also know that they won’t be leaving behind any unnecessary plastic waste. Millions of passengers pass through the airport every year and it’s time they tasted something better.”
Auckland Airport’s General Manager of Retail and Commercial Richard Barker said that the arrival of Better Burger fits well with the airport’s food & beverage plans: “Travellers tell us they want to sample the best of New Zealand’s food and experiences so we’re re-shaping the food and beverage offerings at both Domestic and International terminals.”
Delaware North Executive Director of Travel & Hospitality Services Mark Owens welcomed the latest member of his company’s Auckland Airport restaurant line-up: “We’re excited to be collaborating with Better Burger as we help Auckland Airport bring the best of New Zealand to the world.”
Better Burger, which was founded in 2014, has also announced plans for further New Zealand restaurants in Christchurch, Tauranga and Hamilton.
