BRAZIL. Brazil’s government has implemented a new policy that seeks to encourage competition and improve consumer choice in commercial services at the nation’s airports.
On 28 November Civil Aviation Minister Wellington Moreira Franco signed into law an ordinance that establishes new operational and commercial rules at airports administered by state airport authority Infraero as well as those under private control.
Among the measures is a directive for Infraero to encourage competition in commercial services offered to passengers, with the objective of reducing prices at airports, principally in cafés, restaurants and bars.
“We want them to deliver services efficiently, but in defence of consumers, it’s necessary to ensure that prices are not abusive,” Moreira Franco said.
The policy also directs Infraero to develop more airside commercial offers for passengers.
