AUSTRALIA. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has hailed the work of its team at Brisbane Airport, after the travel hub claimed the title of Best Airport Staff in Australia/Pacific at the global Skytrax World Airport Awards 2021.
Melbourne and Sydney airports took second and third place in the category respectively.
The award recognises the combined quality of staff service (attitude, friendliness, efficiency) delivered across frontline positions at an airport. It includes all customer-facing staff including those working at customer help/information counters, immigration, security, shops and food & beverage outlets.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are based on airport survey questionnaires completed by over 100 different nationalities of airline customers between August 2020 and July 2021.
BAC Chief Executive Officer Gert-Jan de Graaff paid this tribute to Brisbane Airport staff: “There has been a lot of uncertainty throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but our frontline staff have consistently faced all of the challenges presented with a level of courage and care that is truly extraordinary.
“Customer experience is at the heart of everything we do at BNE, so the award for Best Airport Staff is a tribute to these front line staff, from airline and ground handling staff, to volunteers, cleaners, security, customs, immigration, retail, and maintenance staff, and everyone in between, who strive to provide the best possible services and facilities to travellers.”
He added: “Their passion and commitment to customer service is outstanding and BAC is very proud to have strong partnerships with our local operators who share in our commitment to continually improving the passenger experience at Brisbane Airport.
“Most importantly, we’re incredibly proud that it is the passengers themselves who travel through Brisbane Airport that have bestowed this honour on us. For an airport, there is no greater accolade than being voted the best by global travellers in the world’s most prestigious industry awards.”
As reported, in the overall Skytrax awards, Hamad International in Doha was named as the World’s Best Airport.

Note: Entries are now being invited for The Travel Retail Superstars Awards, the first edition of an annual awards for travel retail employees across airport, airline, downtown store and cruise sectors. The awards will shine the spotlight on the thousands of frontline and behind the scenes heroes and heroines who have helped keep the industry going throughout 2020 and into this year.
Hosted by The Moodie Davitt Report, with support from digital, design and communications agency FILTR.Qingwa, this free to enter event is run in collaboration with an advisory committee of human resource and training specialists to shape the awards. The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2021.
