Carole Hubscher will head the Board of Directors of Caran d’Ache |
SWITZERLAND. Caran d’Ache, the Swiss manufacturer of writing instruments and colour products, has named Carole Hubscher to head its Board of Directors.
Jacques Hubscher, the outgoing Chairman, father of Carole and joint shareholder with the Reiser and Christin families, will continue to serve in the role of Honorary President.
He said: “This appointment demonstrates our commitment to remaining an independent company that is strongly attached to its core values and firmly oriented to the future.
“I am both pleased and reassured to pass this heritage on to my daughter, Carole. Her career path has not been planned in advanced nor has it been easy. Over the years she has demonstrated her abilities and above all shown a real interest in the company,” he added.
Carole Hubscher plans to sustain the growth of the brand notably by opening new boutiques and strengthening its media coverage, both in Switzerland and around the world. “Caran d’Ache is a gold nugget,” she said, “and everything in the company helps to make it shine: talented people, a production unit specifically built around the company’s technical expertise, and a tradition of quality.

“I will maintain this direction while bringing new momentum, particularly in the area of communications, to drive the company forward and meet the challenges that lie ahead.”
Jacques Hubscher has dedicated his life to Caran d’Ache since he joined the company in 1960. He is credited for diversifying the company’s production, introducing luxury writing instruments and lighters, and focusing its colour products on the fine arts. He made a major contribution to the brand’s international expansion by setting up branches in France, Germany and Japan, by opening its first boutiques, and by building its presence in more than 90 countries.
After training in banking in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, Jacques Hubscher worked for several years in Germany and in Africa. He then returned to Geneva following the death of his father in 1960 and, strongly encouraged by Joseph Reiser, decided to join Caran d’Ache. He rose steadily through the organisation and in 1982 was named the company’s President.
Jacques Hubscher has served as a member of several professional organisations including the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and the Vorort. He also sat on the boards of directors in the machinery and construction industries, banking and insurance, which enabled him to bring expertise and a wide business perspective to Caran d’Ache.
Carole Hubscher returns to her roots
After graduating from the Geneva Hotel School and completing a Management Development Program at Harvard, Carole Hubscher held various sales and marketing positions in the offices of the American distributor in New York before heading the international sales department in Geneva until 1997. She then became International Marketing Manager for the Calvin Klein watch brand, part of the Swatch Group, and also acted as a consultant for a branding agency.
In 2003 she became a partner at brandstorm, a company that specialised in constructing premium and luxury brands. She has simultaneously served as a member of the Board of Caran d’Ache since 2002.
