Carrasco International Airport hits record annual traffic of 2.14 million passengers in 2025

URUGUAY. Carrasco International Airport has set a new record for international passenger traffic in 2025, welcoming 2,144,071 travellers.

The figure surpasses the previous peak of 2,118,000 passengers recorded in 2017 at the country’s main airport terminal.

Aeropuertos Uruguay Operations and Customer Experience Manager Federico Cabrera said, “This record makes 2025 a historic year for Uruguay’s air connectivity and continues the growth trend we have been experiencing in recent years.

“It is a sign that we are fulfilling our mission of bringing Uruguay closer to the world, while prioritising operational safety with projects such as the new Precision Instrument Landing System, and continuously enhancing the passenger experience.”

The year’s highest traffic was recorded in January, with 206,544 passengers, while March followed as the second-busiest month at 187,241, representing another annual peak.

Carrasco Airport hosts 12 airlines, providing direct service to 17 destinations across Uruguay and international destinations.

The airport expanded its network last year with additional routes from Paranair and Gol, along with increased frequencies from JetSMART, SKY and Latam.

Domestic connectivity was further strengthened in September with the launch of a Sunday flight to Salto, adding to the two existing services and supporting local tourism.

In addition, the airport introduced direct flights between Carrasco International Airport and Rivera International Airport in December.

Cabrera added, “We are very pleased to close the year celebrating a milestone for our country.

“This growth reflects the tremendous effort of the entire aviation ecosystem to strengthen the country’s connectivity and provide the best possible experience for travellers passing through the terminal – a commitment we maintain year after year, and will continue to build on in 2026.”

Aeropuertos Uruguay, operator of Carrasco Airport, also underscored its focus on passenger experience, rolling out upgrades and additional services in 2025.

Improvements include Indoor Parking, offering covered access directly to check-in; a free virtual queue service; and the ‘self bag drop’ system, which allows travellers to check in and tag their luggage at self-service kiosks.

The airport earned international acclaim for its focus on passenger experience, receiving the 2024 Airport Service Quality award from Airports Council International as the Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean for airports with up to 2 million passengers.

Notably, the travel hub’s redesigned food court won ‘Airport Food Hall of the Year’ for airports serving up to 20 million passengers at The Moodie Davitt Report’s Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Awards 2025.

Carrasco International Airport is part of Aeropuertos Uruguay, a subsidiary of Corporación América Airports, which oversees a network that includes Punta del Este, Durazno, Melo, Carmelo, Paysandú, Salto and Rivera.
