Castle Brands takes vintage expressions to Cannes – 28/09/07

Vintage expression: Knappogue Castle 1995 is triple distilled one batch at a time and each bottle is marked with its year of creation

IRELAND. Castle Brands, an emerging developer and marketer of global premium branded spirits, will showcase its premium Irish whiskey brands at the TFWA World Exhibition next month (Stand number: Mediterranean Village N17, Bord Bia stand).

The brands are: the “very rare” Knappogue Castle 1951; Knappogue Castle Vintage Single Malt 1995; and Clontarf Whiskey in a new presentation.

Clontarf:

A blend of malt and grain whiskeys, Clontarf is aged in bourbon barrels and has a smooth yet full-bodied taste. Clontarf is set to unveil its new packaging during the TFWA exhibition which is designed to give the brand a contemporary resonance while retaining traditional whiskey values, the company said.

The family of Clontarf includes Clontarf Classic Blend, Clontarf Reserve and Clontarf Single Malt, all available in 700ml and litre sizes. The 600ml Trinity pack features all three expressions.

Clontarf Classic Blend is a blend of grain and malt whiskeys aged in bourbon barrels for four to seven years.

Clontarf Irish Single Malt is mellowed through Atlantic Irish oak charcoal and also aged in New World bourbon barrels. With a complex taste, it is described as an exceptionally smooth whiskey.

Knappogue Castle 1995 Vintage Irish Single Malt:

Said to be one of the few single malt whiskies produced in Ireland, Knappogue Castle 1995 is triple distilled one batch at a time in traditional pot stills and then aged bourbon barrels to enhance the flavour. It is lightly chill filtered and no artificial colouring is added.

Each bottle is marked with its year of creation with each vintage varying in flavour while remaining true to the Knappogue Castle whiskey tradition, according to Castle Brands. The latest vintage in the award-winning series was distilled in 1995 and bottled this year. Knappogue is available for travel retail/duty free in 700ml and 5ml miniature sizes.

Knappogue Castle 1951:

“Knappogue 1951 is a truly special product in the Irish whiskey category,” said Castle Brands Area Manager Robert Connolly.

Distilled in 1951 in the prestigious B.Daly Distillery Tullamore, it was aged in sherry casks and bottled in 1987. It is named after the 15th Century castle in Western Ireland which was owned by Mark Edwin Andrews whose signature appears on each label.

For travel retail, the 750ml bottle is offered in a wooden presentation box of six. Due to its limited availability, Knappogue 1951 can only be purchased on request.
