CHINA. China National Service Corporation (CNSC) has been awarded the departures duty-free contracts at Changchun Longjia International and Yanji Chaoyangchuan International airports.
The awards boost Northeast China’s high-level opening up, the Sinopharm-controlled company said. The agreements represent another important cooperation between CNSC and Capital Airport Group Co in addition to the departures duty-free contract at Nanchang Changbei International Airport Terminal 1 awarded in late 2020.
CNSC will manage a combined 280sq m of space across its two new contracts. The two parties pledged to deepen cooperation and jointly promote airport business innovation and upgrading.
As Northeast China’s two major aviation gateways, Changchun and Yanji airports connect China with Russia, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries.

The two airports are not only windows for the opening up of northeast China, but also important bridges for promoting regional economic and cultural exchanges, CNSC said.
The winning bids are another important move in Jilin Province (a northeastern Chinese province bordering North Korea and Russia) following success in securing the duty-free contract at Ji’an Port, the company added.
The contracts are a symbolic reflection of CNSC’s continued expansion in China’s Northeast, the retailer said.

CNSC said it plans to leverage its experience in customer service, supply chain management and operational expertise and rely on Sinopharm Group’s strength in the area of health products.
The group plans to continuously deepen the links between multiple travel retail channels and promote the interlinked concept of ‘duty-free + health’. CNSC said it will promote Northeast China’s cultural resources and provide consumers with a diversified offer that integrates shopping, experience and cultural exchanges.
Simultaneously it will promote the innovative integration of duty-free retailing with local culture and local industries. This will help drive Northeast China’s revitalisation, CNSC noted.
The company pledged to vigorously develop mid- to high-end consumption and promote excellence. Innovation will be key to stimulating duty-free consumption, thus injecting new vitality into China’s duty-free industry, CNSC concluded. ✈
