London-based blended Scotch whisky maker Compass Box has appointed spirits industry veteran Maurice Doyle as Chief Executive Officer.
Doyle’s experience in marketing and commercial leadership includes key executive positions with Bacardi Global Travel Retail, William Grant & Sons, Suntory and the Bacardi brand. He will work in partnership with Compass Box Founder and Whisky Maker John Glaser.
Compass Box noted Doyle’s appointment follows a “record-breaking year of sales”, with the company welcoming Caelum Capital as its new majority investor.
Founded in London in 2000, Compass Box is “grounded in Glaser’s personal vision for what the future of whisky making can be”.
“With Maurice joining me at the helm, we are excited to double-down on our determination to democratise the enjoyment of Scotch whisky, to continue releasing products that reveal the creative art behind blending,” Glaser said.
He noted the Compass Box mission to fight what he described as the “single malt hegemony”.
Doyle commented: “I am delighted to be joining Compass Box. It is a brand that I have long admired as a pioneer within Scotch whisky.
“I have a huge amount of respect for John and what he has achieved. We have very similar values on what is important and have complementary skills and experiences. I can’t wait to start working with John, the talented team at Compass Box, our partners, customers, and supporters around the world.”
Compass Box said the significant new investment from Caelum Capital – a specialist alcoholic beverages-focused investment group – supports the company’s ambition to “provide more opportunities to explore, experiment and innovate, with curiosity and creativity as its guiding lights”.
Caelum Capital Founder and Managing Partner Manish Rungta added: “We are really excited to partner with Compass Box and build on the strong foundations created by John and his team.”
