Coopers Alehouse partners with Delaware North at Adelaide International Airport

AUSTRALIA. Coopers Alehouse has partnered with Delaware North to reopen its outlet at Adelaide International Airport, bringing a big terminal expansion project a step closer to completion.

Further retail space along the airport’s central concourse is expected to open this month (September) and in October.

The refurbished Coopers Alehouse lies in a prominent location in front of gates 19-20. It sports a new look but has retained some features from the original bar, including large mirrors with gold-leaf artwork and restored wooden benches.

Leading news, books and convenience retailer WHSmith will open two new stores in the terminal next month – one in the central concourse and another at the northern end of the terminal – while The Pantry Adelaide Kitchen is also expected to open in October.

Adelaide Airport Managing Director Mark Young said it was an exciting time for the airport as retailers open to welcome an expected increase in visitor numbers as national COVID vaccination rates climb and border restrictions are eased.

Coopers Alehouse returns to Adelaide Airport with a new look

“It’s great to see the hard work and years of planning coming to fruition,” he said. “The Coopers Alehouse refurbishment looks amazing, and my congratulations to Coopers and leading airport food service and retail company Delaware North for the excellent result.

“We’re all looking forward to seeing the restaurant and bar areas filled with customers in the hopefully not-too-distant future as restrictions are eased and more passengers return. We know our customers are loving the new retail spaces, as evidenced by the popularity of the new Southern Providore, which opened in April, and the Penfolds Wine Bar and Kitchen along the northern concourse.”

The new retail concourse is part of Adelaide Airport’s first major expansion works since the current terminal was opened in 2005. The project includes the refurbishment of retail areas, which, according to Young, has led to an +80% increase in the overall size of the terminal’s retail and dining precinct across domestic and international areas.

“The presence of iconic South Australian brands as well as the ultimate location of the Vickers Vimy aircraft on the ground floor of the expanded terminal will deliver a real Sense of Place,” Young added.

Coopers Marketing and Innovation Director Cam Pearce commented: “The Coopers Airport Alehouse has been a popular destination since it opened at Adelaide Airport in 2005, providing the ideal place for passengers to relax while enjoying a familiar South Australian product.”

Delaware North Managing Director Gary Brown added: “Delaware North is excited to be part of Adelaide Airport’s newly expanded retail and dining precinct in Terminal 1. We are pleased to have refurbished the iconic Coopers Alehouse, which will further enhance our guests’ experiences at this incredible venue with a new terrace providing stunning views of the Adelaide Hills.

“We are immensely proud of our 25-plus year partnership with Adelaide Airport and look forward to continued success working together.”

Adelaide Airport’s terminal expansion is on track for completion by the end of the year. The project includes a new international arrivals hall, featuring a second, longer baggage belt for arrivals, increased space for immigration processing, expanded screening facilities and a larger duty free precinct. The airport’s historic Vickers Vimy aircraft will be relocated early next year.
