Maga: 13 year’s experience in travel retail |
Distell Group has announced the appointment of Luke Maga to the role of Asia Pacific Duty Free General Manager, further strengthening the company’s travel retail team after appointing Markus Habermann to the equivalent position in Europe in November.
Maga brings 13 years’ travel retail experience to Distell, most recently with Hong Kong-based retail design company Trivision. Previous roles include Asia Pacific Global Travel Retail Manager for Beam Global Spirits & Wine and Global Travel Retail Manager for Maxxium Worldwide in Australia.
Distell Global Duty Free Head Marius Fouché said “[Luke’s] conversancy with the Asia Pacific region, his ability to customise retail solutions for individual geographies and his success with luxury brands make him a valuable addition to the team.”
The company noted that Maga’s appointment follows double-digit year-on-year volume growth for the duty-free division last year.
Amarula is currently the 36th biggest spirit in travel retail, according to the IWSR. The brand has just launched its first line extension, called Amarula Gold, with duty free a priority market for the product.
Distell’s portfolio also includes Cognac Bisquit, Scotch single malt whisky Bunnahabhain and blended Scotch whisky Black Bottle. It also produces several South African wines, including Nederburg.
