Distilleria Bottega celebrates Italy’s World Cup victory with a splash of grappa – 11/07/06

Distilleria Bottega’s limited-edition bottle marks Italy’s World Cup victory

ITALY. Distilleria Bottega is celebrating Italy’s victory in the football World Cup by creating a blown glass bottle containing an Italian flag and a brand new grappa. A limited number of the Italia 06 bottles have been produced.

“The prototype – shown in the photo with tomatoes, mozzarella, pasta and basil – has been ready for a few days, but it was kept secret so it didn’t bring bad luck!” enthused company spokesman Giovanni Savio.

The company’s master glassblowers are only producing 24 bottles, which will be given to the 23 Italian players and coach Marcello Lippi.

“A giant-size bottle containing three litres of grappa will be made specially for the top Italian player Fabio Grosso, who played a major role in achieving this great victory,” said Savio.

The blend is produced from nine vines representing the whole length of the Italian peninsula:
– Prosecco, Nebbiolo and Tocai Friulano from northern Italy
– Sangiovese, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Verdicchio from central Italy
– Nero d’Avola, Aglianico and Primitivo di Manduria from southern Italy.

About Distilleria Bottega

Distilleria Bottega, the leading producer of high quality grappas, is headquartered in Castello Roganzuolo, north of Venice. This area produces Cabernet, Chardonnay, Raboso and Picolit grapes as well as Prosecco and other famous vines, and is one of the best places in Italy for high quality pomaces. Distilleria Bottega was founded in 1977 by Aldo Bottega, a master distiller with more than 30 years’ experience. Under the management of his children Sandro, Stefano and Barbara, the company quickly made a name for itself thanks to an innovative distillation technique that makes the grappa softer and more delicate. In 1992, the company increased its range of products with Il Vino dei Poeti, a sparkling prosecco wine. In 1995, it launched its version of Fragolino, a drink with a great Italian tradition. In 2002, after ten years’ research, the company opened a new distillery in Pianzano, in the province of Treviso. In 2004 the company introduced its grappa spray, presented in a spray bottle. Distilleria Bottega’s products are distributed in over 82 countries and can be found in many duty free shops in airports worldwide.
