DR Group expects +30% sales boost from new-look Langkawi Skymall

MALAYSIA. DR Group Holdings has reopened its Skymall Duty Free outlet at Langkawi International Airport in August following a RM1 million (US$320,000) refurbishment, according to Malaysian national news agency Bernama, with details confirmed by The Moodie Report.

The company, which owns the award-winning Choc Stop International stores at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), said that the two-month refurbishment would help the company strengthen its duty free business.

DR Group Public Relations Officer Shamsul Nizam Shaari said: “Skymall, which is equipped with modern technology, has introduced a new retail concept in duty free retail business to cater to the needs of the customers – especially tourists – here.

The RM1 million refurbishment at Skymall is expected to boost sales for DR Group by up to +30%

“The changes, including the increase in the number of counters selling famous international brands of fragrance, perfume, cosmetics, chocolates and souvenirs, aim to make it convenient for the customers to shop under one roof,” he added.

He said the changes in the exterior and interior aimed to strengthen the image of Skymall Duty Free as an international class retail outlet that would attract more tourists and would make it a “˜must-visit’ place.

DR Group Marketing Manager Shereen Lau revealed to The Moodie Report that the company is expecting a +30% growth in sales following the upgrade.

“Besides increasing the number of counters, the refurbishment [continues to maintain] the high standard of image of the DR Group – not only for Skymall but also for the other outlets under its wing,” Lau said.

She described the new look of Skymall as “ultra modern”, with substantial LED lighting and high quality fixtures constructed by one of Malaysia’s leading designers and contractors.

“The new retail concept introduced by Skymall is absolutely modern with the latest features to make travel retail shopping a terrific experience – it’s all about modern lifestyle,” she added.

With its user-friendly ambience and under-one-roof shopping concept, Lau is anticipating a “dynamic future” for Langkawi Skymall.
