IRELAND. Some of Dubai’s leading companies, including Dubai Duty Free, found a home away from home in Ireland on Sunday, at the annual Dubai race day at The Curragh race course. The world’s third biggest duty free retailer was among the UAE-based sponsors of the day’s races, which included the Darley Irish Oaks classic.
Dubai Duty Free sponsored the prestigious Group 3 Anglesey Stakes, which was won by Tommy Stack-trained Myboycharlie.
The travel retailer, a dedicated champion of Irish horse racing, hosted a large gathering of duty free executives, political figures and show business personalities for the afternoon.
Managing Director Colm McLoughlin, who hails from Galway in Ireland, said the sponsorship at the Curragh Racecourse was central to the retailer’s promotional activities. He said it offers a valuable platform from which Dubai Duty Free – and other UAE companies – can promote Dubai and its world-class sporting, leisure and business facilities to the Irish community.
The day also saw the launch of a special hardback edition of The World Rovers, published by The Moodie Report. The book tells the remarkable story of the Irish influence on the global duty free trade, from the birthplace of the industry at Shannon Airport in 1947 up to the present day.
