HONG KONG. Inflight Sales Group (ISG) Managing Director Tony Detter today announced his retirement from the inflight retailer with immediate effect.
Detter has been a long-time servant of ISG and a tremendous contributor to the inflight retail sector. A man of great integrity, he is held in very high esteem by brands, airlines and rivals alike.
“Last spring in 2016, I re-confirmed my long-held intention to the company’s shareholders to retire once I turned 50,” he said. “While I know it seems young to some, after nearly 12 years working full-time overseas, it was time for me. We began working on a transition plan to ensure minimal impact to ISG, which saw me scale down from full-time to part-time responsibilities in April 2017, and then serve as a consultant and board member in recent months.
“It has been my pleasure to be part of the world’s leading inflight retailer for the last 17 years. While weathering many storms in the last two decades, we remained a very ethical company, as a well as an innovator in product offerings, marketing and promotion within the sector. Travel retail is such an interesting business, and I’ve never stopped learning during my time with ISG”
As part of this transition, Detter has also resigned his seat on the board of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA), where he has also served as its Treasurer during the last four years.
“APTRA has been one of the best parts of my work in the industry,” he said. “We have had a committed group of leading executives working to promote our industry throughout the region, supporting members facing ever-changing regulations and potential threats, as well as providing members with consumer insights and responsible retail training.
“Andrew Ford, Jaya Singh, Eric Juul Mortensen and the other board members are wonderful individuals and great advocates for this industry. I want to thank them for their partnership, and to the membership for providing me with an opportunity to serve them and give back to an industry which has given me so much.
“Thanks to the magic of social media, I’m connected with many people in this fantastic industry on LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, so while I will be working more on my tennis game and other long-delayed projects back in my home in Atlanta when I’m not in Hong Kong, I hope to remain in touch with many of you all, and stay up to date on the industry.”
