Fast-growing Misaki scales new heights in Cannes – 09/11/07

Party power: Misaki’s guests enjoy the clubbing atmosphere at the trendy 3.14 hotel in Cannes during TFWA week

MONACO. Monaco-based Misaki celebrated its extensive 2008 collection of jewellery and watches with a fairytale party at the trendy 3.14 hotel in Cannes during last month’s TFWA World Exhibition.

The ambitious jewellery brand staged a particularly memorable event thanks to the presence of a variety of snakes – including a huge serpent that had to be carried around by a brave team of handlers.

As well as the pythonesque entertainment, wholeheartedly embraced by Managing Director Philipp Wille (pictured below), guests enjoyed a wide range of cocktails concocted by the drinks companies Campari International and Rones de Guatemala.

New display unit and expanding international business

Back on the Misaki exhibition stand in the Palais des Festivals, the company unveiled its new Cash & Carry unit to the trade, specially designed for self-service sales. The display measures 148.5cm (height) x 54cm (depth) x 54cm (width).

In addition the brand announced a host of new inflight listings, including Alitalia, Northwest Airlines (via ISG HK), Tiger Airways, Eva Air, Edelweiss (via Nuance), Eurofly (Dufrital), Armavia Airlines (Paul Global), Middle East Airlines (Traveller Ltd/Chalhoub), LTU (Gebr Heinemann), Hemus Air (Gebr Heinemann), Iberia (Duty Free World) and TAP Air Portugal (Lojas Francas).

On dry land Misaki’s airport duty free presence has gained a considerable boost. In Europe the company will open a shop-in-shop in Moscow Domodedovo and Vnukovo Airports in Russia at the end of this year, and Dufry will introduce the brand into the Serbian market with a free-standing unit in Beograd.

In Asia, the new Cash & Carry display unit will be launched at King Power’s downtown duty free complex in Bangkok. In addition the Thai retailer will introduce the brand at its Suvarnabhumi Airport operation.

Looking back over the past year’s successes, a Misaki corner began trading in New Delhi Airport in September, marking the brand’s launch into the Indian market with Alpha. And last August a Misaki corner opened in Nuance Watson (Hong Kong)’s Atrium Store in the Venetian Hotel, Macau.

In early 2008, the brand will extend its presence at Beijing Capital International Airport into the new Terminal Three with two corners featuring several display units. The brand is already present in T2. Also in China, at the beginning of next year, Misaki will appear in Shanghai Pudong Airport’s new T2.

In the Americas, a new corner opened for business in June at New York JFK Airport T4 with Aer Rianta International (ARI).

Last July in Canada the company launched two Cash & Carry units at Dorval and Ottawa Airports with ARI as well as a new corner in Vancouver Airport with Aldeasa. And last May a new corner started trading in Cancún Airport with the leading Spanish travel retailer.

Next year Africa beckons with a corner in Cairo Airport T3 operated by ARI.

Domestic market surge

In the domestic market expansion continues apace across all regions of the globe.

In Europe Misaki has opened several corners at Manor department stores in Switzerland. At the end of this year three new corners will begin trading at Printemps department stores in France. Meanwhile, in Turkey, the brand counts more than 30 POS, and in Kazakhstan there is a “luxurious” new shop-in-shop, Misaki reports.

In Asia Misaki has made its debut in the Japanese and Australian markets, while three POS have begun trading in Kuala Lumpur.

In the Americas 13 new retailers in Canada now carry the brand, and there are eight new shop-in-shops in Mexico with Liverpool. In 2008 ARI will establish a Misaki corner in Boston Logan Airport.

Last but not least, in the Middle East region, the brand has undergone development in the UAE and Kuwait with Tanagra and Visitor’s shops.
