Ferragamo fashions sunglasses spectacle – 17/11/06

ITALY. The Scene nightclub in Cannes was the setting for a catwalk show with a difference hosted by Salvatore Ferragamo and Luxottica, the Italian fashion house’s sunglasses licensee.

The event, titled “1,000 ways to wear a scarf”, showcased Ferragamo’s myriad multi-coloured scarves and the new Ferragamo Lodge sunglasses model, which makes its debut next month.

Introducing the event, specially held for key travel retail clients during the TFWA World Exhibition in October, Salvatore Ferragamo Product Managing Director Hervé Martin spoke of his commitment to the channel, where Ferragamo scarves sell very well.

“This show is a very good way to demonstrate our commitment to travel retail and demonstrate its importance to a global brand like us,” he told the audience.

The amazing skill of Salvatore Ferragamo’s Franco Risuleo (top left) entranced the audience as he demonstrated manifold ways to tie a scarf. The models strode confidently down the catwalk as a DJ mixed the latest tunes inside The Scene nightclub

The new Ferragamo Lodge model

Wicker-covered arms characterise the Ferragamo Lodge models which are poised to make their travel retail debut in December

Clients at the Cannes fashion show were treated to a preview presentation of Lodge, the new Ferragamo sunglasses model featuring wicker-covered arms which is available in-store from December 2006.

Ferragamo describes Lodge as “a refined creation that evokes a most charming sense of colonial taste and embodies an elegance that is minimal yet extremely sophisticated”.

The wide, woven temples are hand-coated with a water-repellent lacquer that insulates the fibres from the elements. The large, curved wrap-around is enclosed in a narrow metal frame with contrasting screws.

The wicker temples blend with the metal frames available in gold, steel or ruthenium tone finishes. Lenses come in black, smoky-black, brown and smoky-brown colours.

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2007 sunglasses

Available in-store from December 2006, the Spring/Summer 2007 women’s sunglasses styles boast an explosion of light, rhinestones and rich appliqués on elegant, subdued frames.

Concepts range from floral motifs in colourful crystals on the wide temples of Model 2119b, to the coloured baguette crystals in vertical patterns on the temples of Models 2122b and 1137b. The sinuous 2123b is an acetate frame with a front illuminated by a shower of crystals and the Ferragamo logo on the sides.

The temples are described as “unusual, big, entwined and embellished with unique decorations”. The temples on Model 1141b comprise a chain of metal ovals set with rhinestones; the same theme carries over to Model 2118b with a broad, polygonal acetate front.

The classic Ferragamo motif is used in unusual ways, appearing in Model 2117 in an original two-tone enamelled double gancino which is actually the temple-front hinge. A gancino set in rhinestones decorates the broad model 1139b.

Vibrant colours, acetate frames in solids, camouflage or crocodile looks in brown, raspberry, blue, orange, hazelnut and black.

For men there is a collection of wrap-around sunglasses with slip-proof temples in brushed silver, gunmetal, black and gold metal frames; the ergonomic wrap-around with visible screws and low temples in Model 1136; the classic Aviator shaped lenses in Model 1132, and the square lines and double bridge in Model 1134.

For dressier occasions there is Model 2116, a wrap-around Aviator with a high, curved front for an urban chic look.
