Gérard Bertrand SPH, the wine producer from the South of France, has won two prestigious awards from wine connoisseurs.

The company, which owns six estates in the Languedoc Roussillon region, has won the European Winery of the Year award from the leading US magazine Wine Enthusiast.

Each year, the editors of Wine Enthusiast honour outstanding achievement in the wine world. The award will be presented at a Wine Star Awards gala dinner in New York in January 2012.

Gérard Bertrand receives this award just before celebrating the 25th anniversary of the brand in 2012 and the 10th anniversary of his flagship estate Château L’Hospitalet.

Commenting on the award, Global Travel Retail Director Christophe Balaÿ said: “We are proud of this important distinction and are convinced that this will further dynamise the success of our wine brand in the travel retail and passenger catering channels.”

Excellence in wine making and wine tourism

This accolade follows another recent distinction for the ambitious French wine maker. The IFWTWA Beverage Excellence Award, a world-class distinction from the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association, was granted to Gérard Bertrand in recognition of the company’s excellence in wine making and wine tourism.

The association’s Excellence Awards programme recognises the world’s finest culinary, travel and tourism industry professionals as experienced by the organisation’s journalist members.

“The wines bearing the Gérard Bertrand signature share a common identity: balance and elegance; they truly express the thoughtfulness of the winemaker and the South of France terroir. Gérard Bertrand produces four levels to meet the needs of the different segments in the US market,” the association said.

“We are proud to give Gérard Bertrand this award,” added IFWTWA President Maralyn Hill. “He demonstrates the professional standards that represent the best in the wine and ecotourism industries. Mr Bertrand and other professionals in his class raise the bar in these industries worldwide.”
