Gebr. Heinemann extends partnership with Berlin Brandenburg Airport and plans major retail expansion

GERMANY. Gebr. Heinemann has extended its duty-free and Travel Value contract with Berlin Brandenburg Airport and revealed plans to extend retail space in Terminal 1 to around 3,800sq m.

A statement from the partners said, “The project underlines the shared ambition of Gebr. Heinemann and Berlin Brandenburg Airport to create a more attractive, convenient, and experience-driven environment for international passengers.”

The redesigned airside marketplace will combine an expanded shopping offer and a food & beverage area with a direct view of the apron.

Gebr. Heinemann Chief Sales Officer Florian Seidel said, “The extension of our partnership with Berlin Brandenburg Airport is a strong sign of mutual trust. For Gebr. Heinemann, the agreement underscores our commitment to developing airport retail concepts that are closely tailored to the needs of travellers.

“At BER, the planned expansion gives us the opportunity to create a future-oriented retail environment that combines a targeted product offering with greater convenience and an overall enhanced passenger experience.“

Gebr. Heinemann Managing Director at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Steffen Jopp added: “The expanded space will allow us to introduce new concepts and create a more inviting atmosphere that encourages travellers to spend time in the market place.

“We are particularly pleased that the new retail areas will be complemented by food & beverage options and further enhancements, creating a more enjoyable experience for all passenger groups.”

Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg CEO Aletta von Massenbach stated: “In conjunction with Gebr. Heinemann, we are investing in the future and consistently developing the market place as the centrepiece of our terminal.

“By way of the redesign, we are creating more space for people to linger, expanding the range of facilities for passengers and opening up the area more towards the apron.

“This creates a further attractive area uniquely combining shopping, restaurants and the airport experience. BER’s travel experience will, therefore, be noticeably enhanced.”

The transformation will be carried out in several construction phases and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. Passenger and retail operations will continue without restriction throughout the construction period, said the partners.
