Destination Hamburg: Heinemann’s new store at its home city’s cruise port |
GERMANY. Gebr. Heinemann has opened Destination Hamburg, a new 64sq m store at Hamburg’s Cruise Center Steinwerder. The shop is located in a new cruise terminal, which opened today to cater to growing cruise numbers in the city.
The store offers departing cruise passengers souvenirs, fashion from regional manufacturers such as Elbe Beach and Derbe as well as goods from Hamburg football clubs HSV and St. Pauli. The shop also stocks confectionery from northern Germany plus snacks, newspapers and magazines.
A notable feature is that the travel retailer’s trainees are managing the shop’s activities, from product ordering and presentation to sales and staff scheduling.
The 20-strong team of trainees comes from the company’s Head Office in Hamburg and the Heinemann Duty Free shops at Hamburg Airport.
The company said they will receive advice and guidance from experienced sales staff from the airport shops as well as from Head Office staff.
Cruise Center Steinwerder will handle around 500,000 cruise passengers this year. Growth in cruise travel numbers led to the development of the new (third) cruise ship terminal, operated by Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH, a joint venture between Hamburg Port Authority and Flughafen Hamburg GmbH. Gebr Heinemann, a long-standing partner of Hamburg Airport, was granted the rights to operate the Destination Hamburg store.
