SPAIN. Currency exchange specialist Global Exchange has started operations at Barcelona-El Prat International Airport with four outlets in Terminal 1.
The four units are said to be located at strategic positions throughout Arrivals and Departures in the terminal, offering foreign exchange and tax refund services.
The openings follow a tender by airport company AENA for the currency exchange and tax refund services concession at Barcelona Airport. After winning the contract, Global Exchange is investing €3 million and creating 90 new jobs.
Global Exchange Group President and CEO Isidoro J. Alanís said: “Starting operations at Barcelona, the second busiest airport in Spain and the ninth in Europe, is a great step forward for our company. It will represent an important business increase, the Spanish subsidiary [becoming] one of the most important ones for the Global Exchange Group.”
Global Exchange already has branches at Madrid-Barajas, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca airports. Together with Barcelona, these locations serve over 107 million passengers a year, or 60% of the total passenger volume in Spain.
