Travelex accelerates expansion in Germany with three stores at Frankfurt Airport

Easily recognisable in its signature blue, Travelex has become a constant presence in airports, supporting seamless access to travel money at key international hubs

GERMANY. Foreign Exchange specialist Travelex has extended its presence at Frankfurt Airport with three additional stores in Terminal 1.

The openings align with growing passenger demand at the busy travel hub, which recorded a +5% year-on-year increase in traffic in January.

The new outlets offer travel money services across more than 50 currencies for same-day needs, alongside a pre-order service that allows customers to collect cash ordered online.

The stores are located in the landside departures areas of terminals 1A and 1B, as well as the airside section of Terminal 1A/Z.

The expansion also reflects momentum in Germany’s tourism sector, with visitor numbers forecast to grow +3.2% this year, according to Tourism Economics. Frankfurt Airport has reflected this trend, posting a +2.6% increase in footfall in 2025.

The additional stores strengthen Travelex’s footprint across Germany’s busiest hubs, extending its 31-year partnership with Frankfurt Airport. Since opening its first location in 1993, the company now operates 13 stores and 30 ATMs across Terminal 1, spanning both landside and airside areas.

Travelex Europe Managing Director Leonard Stolk said, “Frankfurt Airport welcomed over 63 million passengers last year, and demand for travel money at Europe’s sixth-busiest airport has never been greater.

“We’re proud to be expanding our three-decade-long relationship with Frankfurt Airport with three new stores, offering travellers even more convenient access to a huge range of currencies.”

Beyond travel money services, Travelex also runs a wholesale cash operation at Frankfurt Airport, supplying over 70% of airport retailers, as well as a tax refund service.

Additional stores are set to open in Munich Airport’s new Terminal 1E, bringing Travelex’s presence to five of Germany’s six busiest airports, including Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Cologne and Hamburg.
