Guerlain names Thierry Wasser Exclusive Perfumer – 19/05/08

FRANCE. Thierry Wasser has been appointed Exclusive Perfumer for the house of Guerlain, effective June 2008.

In this position, Wasser will work closely with Sylvaine Delacourte, who joined Guerlain in 1983 and was in 2002 appointed to a key role within Fragrance Evaluation and Creation. She has since been involved in the development of fragrances such as L’Instant de Guerlain and Insolence.

Wasser’s appointment upholds Guerlain’s philosophy of entrusting its olfactory creations to a dedicated house “nose”, a tradition that has been followed for almost 180 years.

The latest, Jean-Paul Guerlain, has created almost 100 original fragrances, including Vetiver, Habit Rouge and Samsara. He will carry on guiding Guerlain in his position as Consultant in the field of creation and raw materials.

Described as one of the leading figures in contemporary fragrance, Wasser discovered his vocation as a perfumer after studying botany and training with Givaudan. He joined Firmenich in 1993, and spent nine years in New York before joining the company’s creation centre in Paris in 2002.

He created Iris Ganache and Quand Vient La Pluie for La Maison Guerlain.
