HONG KONG. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has teamed up with Multiplex Cinema and SimEx-Iwerks to open Hong Kong’s first 4D Extreme Screen cinema complex.
The 330-seat cinema will be located at the airport’s new aviation-themed SkyPlaza mall and is scheduled to open in July 2006.
Airport Authority Hong Kong Commercial Director Hans Bakker said: “An international transfer hub with a 4D cinema at HKIA is the world’s first in aviation industry. This is a further illustration that HKIA is more than an airport and offers a competitive edge over other airports in the region.
“This attraction will provide an entertainment venue for local residents, transfer passengers with a long dwelling time as well as leisure visitors using our multi-modal transport facilities.”
SkyPlaza will be at the centre of the expanded SkyCity Complex, which is a one-minute walk from terminal one.
Key features of SkyPlaza’s 4D Extreme Screen will include:
– Asia’s largest 4D cinema screen – over four storeys high at 64ft x 44ft
– The cinema can screen 2D, 3D and 4D films in 35mm and 70mm formats and is equipped with conference facilities
– Cutting-edge Academy Award-winning Iwerk 8/70 Linear Loop projection technology
– F/X visual and audio effects for real 3D images
– Exclusive showings of a wide programme of 4D Extreme Screen adventure movies produced to international standards.
