THE NETHERLANDS. HMSHost International is to operate 20 food & drinks locations across many of the major railway stations in The Netherlands.

The Autogrill company has reached two separate agreements with the country’s main railway operator, Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), which it expects to be worth around €305 million in total revenues.

The first contract is to operate 17 Burger King points of sale already in service on the national rail network, which are expected to generate overall revenues of around €290 million over the ten year lease. The contract became effective on 1 December.

HMSHost said it would redevelop some of the Burger King locations and convert them to concepts in the hamburger/fast food category “in line with trends reflecting health, freshness and sustainability”.

The second contract involves the operation of three La Place restaurants already in service in Dutch railway stations, with a five year lease and projected total sales of €15 million. It becomes effective on 21 December.

All associates employed by NS Stations and who work at Burger King or La Place have been taken on by HMSHost.

HMSHost International CEO Walter Seib said: “This agreement is part of Autogrill’s international expansion strategy and shows the group’s ability to rapidly exploit new opportunities arising in all the travel channels.

“Our expansion to include stations in the Netherlands fits perfectly with our growth strategy and we are extremely pleased to be able to further expand our relationship with NS Stations.”
