Hudson Group wins three new contracts at US airports – 24/03/06

US. Hudson Group today announced three new travel retail contracts with North American airports.

Hudson has been selected by Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport to open a Hudson News and gift shop in the terminal building. The contract will run for ten years with a five-year option.

In recent weeks, Hudson has also been selected by Portland International Airport and John Wayne/Orange County International Airport to enhance their respective retail programmes.

In Portland, Hudson and business partner FM Burch & Associates, trading as Hudson-Burch Portland JV, were awarded a ten-year contract to create an upscale F&B concession called the Beaverton Bakery Café. The café, which will anchor the airport’s Oregon Market, will offer Hudson’s distinctive line of Euro Café products – gourmet coffees, teas, cappuccinos, espressos and lattes. It will also feature baked goods, snacks and sandwich breads provided by the Beaverton Bakery, a popular local landmark.

“Through this exclusive arrangement the Beaverton Bakery Café will provide some of the finest and freshest tastes of the Portland area to the employees and customers of Portland Airport,” Hudson said.

At John Wayne/Orange County International Airport, Hudson Group and business partner Martinez-Niebla, trading as AMS-Martinez Niebla JV, were selected to develop and operate three Hudson News stores in the airport. Hudson Group will completely remodel and build out each store, using a surfing motif to evoke the nearby beaches of Orange County.

“Taken together the wins represent some US$45 million in new business for Hudson Group and its business partners over the respective terms of the contracts,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Joseph DiDomizio. “We are particularly delighted that two of these airports – Newport News and John Wayne – are new markets for us. The Portland award is equally gratifying, since it demonstrates Hudson’s growing strength as a quality food & beverage retailer, which is a relatively new field of endeavour for our company.

“Overall I am convinced that this new business is a direct result of our practice of custom designing every store to fit the airport’s individual design. We also carefully weigh factors such as the amount of available space, product mix desired by the airport, number of travellers, and so on. Attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction are the key differentiators that set apart Hudson’s news-stands and specialty retail concepts,” DiDomizio added.
