Ian Macleod Distillers has launched its travel retail-exclusive 33 Year Old Rosebank Lowland Single Malt Single Cask at select locations worldwide, in partnership with Avolta and EVERRICH Duty Free.
Selected from the Rosebank reserves, this expression was drawn from cask number 3469, filled in 1990 and bottled 33 years later at natural strength.
Under this strictly limited release, the Rosebank Single Cask (46.6% ABV/70cl) is available in just 107 individually numbered bottles globally, with an RRP of £5,500 (US$6,900).
Packaged in a hand-crafted wooden cylinder with copper detailing, the ornate bottle is adorned with an engraved rose, complete with an authenticity certificate.
Triple distilled and non-chill filtered, the Rosebank Single Cask reveals tropical fruit flavours and a smooth, silky texture with a rich character balanced by a delicate oak finish.
Nestled along the Forth & Clyde Canal in Falkirk, Rosebank Distillery was founded in 1840.
Dubbed the ‘King of the Lowlands’, Rosebank is regarded as the gold standard for the Lowland single malt category and is known for its delicate and floral character, complemented by depth and complexity.
This contrast highlights the distinct production process, which combines triple distillation with worm tub condensers, resulting in what is described as a very special and captivating whisky.
As reported, Rosebank ceased production in 1993 when former owner, United Distillers & Vintners (now Diageo), closed the site.
Ian Macleod Distillers acquired the distillery from Scottish Canals along with the Rosebank brand and last remaining stocks from Diageo in 2017.
The company has since completed a renovation, reopening the distillery to the public in June. Last month, Rosebank won the Best Regeneration Project award at the Herald Property Awards.
Ian Macleod Distillers Head of Global Travel Retail William Ovens said: “It is so exciting to launch this incredibly rare release from Rosebank, the ‘King of the Lowlands’.
“We are delighted to partner with two of the world’s leading travel retail operators to launch this highly limited and exclusive Rosebank Single Cask. With the new Rosebank Distillery having just re-opened after closing 30 years ago, this is a very exciting time for the brand.”
EVERRICH Duty Free Vice President Patricia Wang added: “Our company is proud to have secured 60 bottles of the highly limited and exclusive Rosebank Single Malt Single Cask. We were truly impressed by the whisky-making process during our visit to the re-opened distillery and now fully understand why Rosebank has earned its reputation as the ‘King of the Lowlands’.”
Avolta Global Head of Liquor David de Miguel commented: “We are extremely proud to be able to offer such a limited and exclusive whisky to travellers visiting our stores. Whiskies from Rosebank are much sought after and we are delighted to have the opportunity to bring such a rare and unique release to our customers.” ✈
