Today’s image (courtesy of TRunblocked Publisher Peter Marshall) comes from Frankfurt Airport – Hall B in Terminal One to be precise – where earlier this week passengers were serenaded by an enthusiastic traveller as he made the most of the hall’s impressive Bechstein grand piano.
The airport introduced the piano concept in 2014, inviting passengers to come along and “play their favourite song”. It offers a nice glimpse into the musical tastes and talents of fellow travellers. To see a stranger sit down and take up a tune – whatever their skill level – is to see a different side of a person you might simply have walked by.
The current piano is a special edition grand concert model from renowned German company Bechstein. It arrived in June as part of a three-month airport campaign to promote German and other European brands.
Alongside Bechstein, other partners include German watchmakers Nomos and Wempe, Spanish leathergoods house Loewe and Swiss chocolatier Lindt.
Judging by the happy crowds seen this week, it’s a concept that strikes a chord in every sense.
