NEW ZEALAND. Today’s images come from Wellington Airport, gateway to the nation’s capital, and its transformation into a festive wonderland with over 60 Christmas trees taking centre-stage in aid of families living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
The installation is part of the annual Cystic Fibrosis Christmas Tree Festival, an initiative that brings together businesses, community organisations and individuals to sponsor Christmas trees and raise vital funds for the Cystic Fibrosis NZ Wellington Branch.
The festival sheds light on challenges faced by the more than 600 people in New Zealand living with CF, the country’s most common life-threatening genetic condition.

Funds raised enable Cystic Fibrosis NZ (CFNZ) to deliver critical support services, including dedicated social workers, financial assistance, specialist programmes such as Breath4CF, and mental health services which help families cope with the demands of life with CF.
Generous contributions from sponsors and participants have made the festival a cherished annual tradition over the past ten years, with previous events raising around NZ$30,000 for CFNZ.

Wellington Airport Brand and Sponsorship Manager Jo Maxwell commented: “This is an important cause we’ve been proud to support for ten years now, helping make life a bit easier for vulnerable families this Christmas. It’s also very popular with travellers and creates a fantastic Christmas vibe in the terminal, thanks to our generous sponsors and volunteers.”
Cystic Fibrosis NZ Chief Executive Lisa Burns commented: “As we stand at the close of 2024, the landscape of cystic fibrosis is changing in ways we couldn’t have imagined just a few years ago.
“We are deeply grateful to Wellington Airport and our wonderful sponsors – both returning and new – for their incredible generosity and commitment. Thank you for standing with our CF community, together we are shaping a future where every person with living with CF has the chance to thrive and live healthy lives.”

As Wellington Airport sparkles with festive cheer, the Cystic Fibrosis Christmas Tree Festival serves as a powerful reminder of the community’s collective generosity and the spirit of giving back during the holiday season. Click here to see the full list of participants and cast your votes. ✈
