ARUBA. Today’s selection comes from Avolta-owned Aruba Duty Free, where the vibrancy of island life was brought to Queen Beatrix International Airport in honour of Aruba Flag and Anthem Day (18 March).

The images were shared on the official @arubadutyfree Instagram account.

Aruba Duty Free’s stores were transformed into immersive cultural showcases. The celebrations blended music, dance and local spirits tastings to create a multi-sensory representation of Aruban identity.

The tasting sessions celebrated the diversity of local Aruban spirits brands. Names featured include Codigo 1530, Papiamento, Pepe Margo Distillery and Casimogs Tequila.

Flag and Anthem Day commemorates Aruba’s journey towards autonomy.

The island country’s formal separation from the Netherlands was first proposed in 1948 by politician Shon A. Eman and later formalised in 1976 by political leader Betico Croes.

The annual celebrations feature parades, performances and a strong display of national pride. These are anchored by the anthem Aruba Dushi Tera, composed by Aruban musicians Juan Chabaya Lampe, Rufo Wever and Hubert Booi.

By bringing these cultural touchpoints to life in the airport, Aruba Duty Free underlines the growing emphasis on sense of place and cultural storytelling within travel retail.

Spotlight on local flavours: Tastings added a sensory dimension to the celebrations, reinforcing the island’s identity through taste as well as sight and sound
