J.Cortès brand Oliva honoured by influential cigar title

Oliva Cigar’s Serie V Belicoso, Serie G Robusto and Serie V Melanio were praised by L’Amateur De Cigare’s panel of judges

Nicaraguan cigar company Oliva Cigars, a subsidiary of J.Cortès, has been honoured as brand of the year by bi-monthly French cigar magazine, L’Amateur de Cigare.

The publication is well-respected within the cigar community and features comprehensive cigar reviews, interviews with famous cigar makers and reports on cigar countries. The title also publishes a yearly ‘cigaroscope’ edition that ranks and analyses every cigar brand in the world. In this edition, Oliva Cigars was awarded the accolade of top cigar brand for 2020.

L’Amateur De Cigare’s expert panel ranked Oliva Cigars highly for its five star series (the Serie V Belicoso, the Serie G Robusto and the Serie V Melanio) and the accessibility of the Serie G line.

“This is a great honour for everyone who works on this fantastic brand, here in Belgium and in Nicaragua,” commented J.Cortès CEO Frederik Vandermarliere. “We are therefore very proud of this recognition of the quality of Oliva Cigars. However, this title does not mean that we are now resting on our laurels, quite the contrary! It shows us that we are on the right track to let enthusiasts enjoy our delicious cigars. For example, this year we have bought beautiful farmlands to ensure the future and the constant taste of the Oliva cigars.”

As reported, family-owned cigar company J.Cortès acquired fellow family-run company Oliva Cigars in 2016. It also completed a major two-year investment in the Oliva factory in Nicaragua, which produces upwards of 80,000 cigars on a typical day.

The Moodie Davitt Report recently attended a virtual tour of the new facility, discovering all stages of Oliva’s cigar manufacturing processes.
