Jack Daniel’s unveils new limited edition to mark double gold medal win

Jack Daniel’s is commemorating its double gold medal triumph in London in 1914 and 1915 with the release of a collectable limited edition bottle and gift pack in several London airports.

The story of the Tennessee whiskey’s double victory dates back to 1914, when London’s Anglo-American Exhibition celebrated a century of peace and growing friendship between the British and American people.

It honoured the two countries’ contributions to the world, including Jack Daniel’s whiskey, which introduced the process of mellowing whiskey drop by drop through sugar maple charcoal to give it a smooth taste. It was this special distinction that earned Jack Daniel’s a gold medal.

The whiskey was also victorious the following year in 1915, when Lem Motlow – the nephew of Jack Daniel – shipped a bottle to the London Institute of Hygiene to prove the continuing excellence of the whiskey even after his uncle’s passing. Although the distillery had passed into the hands of Motlow by then, the time-honoured way of making and mellowing the whiskey remained the same and Jack Daniel’s was awarded a gold medal.

The Jack Daniel’s Limited Edition Double Gold Medal (pictured in our Moodie Magnifier), RRP £75, comprises a matte black 1-litre bottle of the iconic Old No.7 packaged in a black and gold gift box. The bottle stands podium-style with two commemorative glass tumblers each featuring the years of the gold medal victories.

The collectable is available exclusively from World Duty Free. It can also be pre-ordered online from www.worlddutyfree.com for collection by those travelling through or returning to London’s Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports between July and September while stocks last.

World Duty Free Category Manager for Liquor Nigel Sandals described the focus of the gift pack as an effort to offer customers a one-of-a-kind travel retail exclusive.

“One of our main focuses is to offer our customers travel retail exclusives – unique products which they won’t find on the High Street,” he said. “We actively work with our brand partners to develop these exclusive products and the Jack Daniel’s Limited Edition Double Gold Medal Bottle and Gift Pack is a perfect example. The product presentation is exceptional and we are confident that customers will want to buy this distinctive and unique gift pack,” he said.
